Exhibitions | Flanders and the sea

From April 4th to July 12th 2015

This exhibition located in the entire ground floor will look at the representation of sea in Flemish art in a new light, thanks to an remarkable selection of paintings and engravings from the XVIth and XVIIth centuries.
Even if seascapes are an area of the Dutch painting, Flemish painters are their real inventors. Besides battleships, the economic and seaborne development of Flanders during the XVIth and XVIIth centuries have a part in the success of this theme.
Painters are driven by the imaginative and fascinating power of the sea beyond an historical and social representation.
It's a world of monsters and gods.
